The Library has moved!
Last week, the library was moved from the upstairs to the downstairs next to the Preschool...around the corner from the copier. It's about twice the size with freshly painted walls and high windows - it's a lovely space. Mr. Michelaney (sp) was very helpful in figuring out good arrangements for the shelves - Thanks Mr. M. The rest of the Michelany (sp) family were very hard workers - I highly recommend their children as future helpers.
There are some expected retrofit issues...the one of most concern are the electrical outlets...the two in the room do not take 3 pronged plugs...we have jury rigged the computer with an adapter, but clearly this can only be a temporary solution...at this point we can 't even use a surge protector...so we need some electrical re-work in the library. In that vein, we are also looking for an Internet connection for the library.
Some other things we could use are a bookcases designed to hold picture books - these are laid flat against a surface so the children can see the front cover...another way to hold these books is with a a sturdy set of bins on legs...think shortened milk bins made out of wood, sitting on top of legs so its all about 3 feet tall...these could be made fairly easily by a carpenter, especially the flat book shelf...I could give more specifics to them
Some colorful rugs would also make the room warmer for the little ones...and some sturdy stools designed for library use - these are the only safe ones to use and they would help the youger ones reach to the higher shelves.
If you can help provide any of these needs, email me or talk to Linda Mcilehany(sp). Thanks.
